Why one pentest a year is no longer enough

What is continuous penetration testing? Continuous penetration testing, also called PTaaS (penetration testing as a service), is a subscription program in which senior consultants test your applications, APIs and infrastructure on a schedule and after significant changes, rather than once a year. You get ongoing coverage, verified findings and retests under one agreement.

A yearly test describes your security on one day. Teams that ship often change their attack surface far faster than that, so issues introduced after the test go unseen until the next one. Automated scanning alone does not fill the gap, because it cannot confirm what is actually exploitable.

Release speed outruns annual tests

New features, endpoints and integrations ship between tests.

Customers and auditors want current evidence

Buyers ask when you last tested and what changed since.

Fixes need verification

Retests confirm issues stay closed as the code changes.

Approach

How it works

Best for

One-time pentest

Penetration testing at least annually and after significant change for environments handling cardholder data

Stable systems and one audit deadline

Annual test plus retest

One test and a retest after fixes

Teams with a yearly release cycle

Continuous program

Scheduled tests through the year plus change-driven retests

Teams that release often

Automated scanning only

Tools find known issues with no human validation

A baseline, not a pentest

Continuous plus deep dives

Regular cycles plus a deep test on major releases

Regulated or fast-growing platforms

What a continuous program should include

  • Manual testing by senior consultants. Not only scheduled scans.
  • A schedule tied to your releases. Quarterly, monthly or per major release.
  • Change-driven testing. New features and architecture changes get tested.
  • Retests included. So fixes are verified as you go.
  • Findings as they are confirmed. Critical issues are reported immediately.
  • Reports for customers and auditors. Updated evidence each cycle.

Requirements vary by buyer and regulator. Confirm yours before scoping, and we will align the test to them.

Continuous pentest services

We build the program around your release cadence and risk, so testing effort goes where your attack surface changes most.

Scheduled application and API testing

Recurring tests of web apps and APIs. See API penetration testing.

Change-driven testing

Targeted tests after new features, integrations or architecture changes.

Cloud and infrastructure cycles

Periodic review of identities, storage and exposed services. See cloud penetration testing.

Retests after every cycle

Verification that findings stay closed.

Quarterly readouts

A review of findings, trends and priorities with your team.

Reports for customer and audit reviews

Updated reports each cycle for SOC 2, PCI DSS, ISO 27001 and customer reviews.

How much does fintech penetration testing cost? Fintech penetration testing is priced after scoping because scope varies with products, APIs, payment flows and environments. Web and API testing starts from $4,000*, internal network testing from $4,000*, cloud testing from $2,400* and external network testing from $1,600*. *Final pricing is determined after scoping. You get a fixed quote within 24 hours.

Continuous pentest methodology

Manual testing by senior consultants, aligned to OWASP WSTG, OWASP API Security Top 10, PTES and NIST SP 800-115. Not automated scanning.

Scope in 24 hours

We review your applications, release cadence and risk, then propose a testing schedule and a fixed annual quote.

Baseline test

A full manual test establishes your starting security posture.

Scheduled and change-driven cycles

We test on the agreed schedule and after significant changes. Critical findings are reported to you immediately.

Retests and readouts

We verify fixes and review results with your team each cycle.

Annual review

We update scope and schedule as your product and risk change.

What continuous testing typically catches

These are the issues that creep in between annual tests.

Regressions

Fixed issues that reappear after later releases.

New endpoints without authorization

APIs shipped without the checks older ones have.

Misconfigured new cloud resources

Storage and roles created for a feature and left open.

Risky integrations

OAuth apps and webhooks added without review.

Privilege changes

Role or permission changes that widen access.

Dependency vulnerabilities

Newly disclosed flaws in libraries you rely on.

How to start a continuous pentest program

When should we schedule it? Start with a baseline test, then set the cadence. Allow about two weeks to scope and schedule the first cycle.

Share your architecture

Applications, APIs, cloud and your release process.

Tell us your release cadence

Weekly, monthly or per major release.

Set up a stable test environment

Staging with test accounts for every role.

Choose a point of contact

Someone who can approve scope changes and receive critical findings.

Agree the schedule

Quarterly, monthly or change-driven cycles.

Continuous program reporting

Reports designed to support customer and audit reviews. We test security. Your customers and auditors decide what satisfies their requirements. Reports are delivered as PDF.
